Chapter 51: Vin saw the mist spirit inside her tent, standing above the sleeping Elend. She tried to stopp it with a dagger, it vanished. Clubs reported to Breeze and Sazed that the koloss were fighting a massive brawl, enraged to the point that they would soon start attacking Luthadel. Sazed watched the koloss attack from his gate. Their defenses seemed to have little effect on the koloss, and they started moving toward the other gates and surrounding the city. Vin invaded the camp of the men who were following them and found that they were led by Jastes, who had decided to abandon the koloss and follow Elend's group to safety. Jastes said that the supply carts containing the fake currency had burned down and that he couldn't control the koloss any longer. Elend executed him. Spook revealed that Sazed had tricked Elend and Vin into leaving the city so they would survive the coming attack. Vin realized that the Well of Ascension was in Luthadel, and they decided to return.
