Chapter 47: Zane showed up and asked Vin to leave with him. Vin almost agreed, but then refused after realizing that Zane wouldn’t trust or support her the way Elend did. Zane became angry and attacked Vin. Vin asked OreSeur to give her the atium, but he ignored her. It was then revealed that the kandra was TenSoon, the imposter she had been looking for, who was under contract with Zane. As Vin was losing, TenSoon reminded her that kandra could be controlled through soothing. She did so and got the atium. However, it was only enough for a few seconds, as Zane had intended. Vin tried to read what Zane would do from his reaction and managed to redirect her attack, killing him. TenSoon apologized for his betrayals and bid her farewell, saying that he would return to his kandra homeland now that his contract with Zane was void. Chapter 48: Vin appeared in front of Elend, injured, and told him that she had killed his brother Zane. They went to Sazed to have her wounds treated. While Sazed tended to her, Vin talked with Elend about the capabilities of trust of his and Kelsier’s. They then got married after Sazed held the shortest wedding ceremony from Larsta. Sazed mentioned the Well of Ascension as a solution to their problems and advised Elend to accompany Vin to the Well, which was located to the north in the Terris Mountains, on Derytatith Peak. Sazed fabricated a peaceful handover of the city to Straff to persuade them to agree to leave. Chapter 49: The next day, Elend, Vin, and Spook were ready to leave. Tindwyl questioned Elend’s decision, and she decided to stay behind. Allrianne showed up and wanted to leave with them. As they left the city, a group of Straff’s soldiers tried to intercept them. After Vin dealt with them, Allrianne parted ways with the group and rode west alone. Straff felt sick; he then realized that he had been drugged by Amaranta. Chapter 50: Allrianne arrived at her father's army. She advised Cett to return with his army to Luthadel instead of proceeding to their home dominance to improve their chances of survival. Elend, Vin and Spook camped (poor Spook being the third wheel). Straff woke up after being unconscious for almost three days, he ordered the army to move back as Zane suggested. Sazed filled his metalminds in preparation for a koloss attack on Luthadel. Sazed found Dockson and Tindwyl discussing the deployment of their soldiers in the main ballroom. Dockson asked Sazed to help at the Steel Gate. Sazed and Tindwyl argued over why they had remained in the city while allowing Elend and Vin to leave. They finally embraced each other before an alarm sounded.
