Chapter 53: Straff and the army waited outside Luthadel and let the koloss destroy the city and slaughter the people inside it. Sazed used his pewtermind to fight the koloss at the Steel Gate. He learned that the Tin Gate, which Tindwyl was in charge of, had fallen. The koloss broke through the Zinc Gate, and Clubs ordered Breeze and the soldiers there to retreat into the city. Breeze watched as a koloss cut down Clubs, and he fled to hide in a nearby building. The koloss invaded Keep Venture and slew Dockson. Allrianne tried to convince her father to help Luthadel, but he refused, saying that he would help Straff take the city instead. Sazed managed to keep fighting for hours, but his pewtermind eventually ran out. As he prepared for his death, Vin arrived in time and killed the koloss in front of him. Breeze despaired over his cowardice as Hammond and Sazed located him and tried to lead the remaining soldiers to Keep Hasting.
